Future Focus Foundation

The Future Focus Foundation was created by the Lynchburg Region Technology Council to help our Region’s youth explore educational pathways that will lead to careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM).

The Foundation recognizes STEM education is critical to our Region's future. According to the U.S. Department of Commerce, STEM careers are growing at 17% versus others that are growing at 9.8%. Professions associated with STEM yield higher salaries, challenge employees and make a difference by helping others or solving real world issues. The Region is currently home to over 1,300 engineers. Average annual wages for an engineer in the Lynchburg Region are $83,400.

The Future Focus Foundation partners with local colleges, employers, and other non-profit organizations to offer STEM programs that engage our youth. Just a few of the programs are: Jr. FIRST Lego, FIRST Lego League, Vex Robotics, Summer Career Academies, Central Virginia Regional Science Fair, and summer internships. The Future Focus Foundation has a long-standing partnership with the Lynchburg Regional Governor's XLR-8 STEM Academy, an academic and technical traning program for regional high school juniors and seniors.

For the Lynchburg Region, a STEM education focus is important to our major employers, such as, AREVA, BWXT, Centra, Abbott Nutrition, TEVA Pharmaceuticals, Fleet Laboratories, and many more. Companies located within the Region can ensure a strong and talented pipeline of qualified employees for years to come.
